Sodium dichloroisocyanurate for municipal water treatment

Nov.18.2023

Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (SDIC) is a popular choice for municipal water treatment programs because of its effectiveness in killing harmful bacteria and viruses.

One such program in a small town in the Midwestern United States saw a significant reduction in waterborne illnesses after switching from traditional chlorination methods to SDIC. The town had been experiencing periodic E. coli outbreaks in the water supply, which had been traced back to animal feces near the local reservoir.

SDIC was able to kill the E. coli bacteria without harming the environment, and the town’s water supply has been safe and reliable ever since. With the understanding of the benefits of using SDIC, the town has included it in its regular water treatment plan to ensure water safety.
